Back Pain: 6 Reasons Why Your Back Pain Is Getting Worse

Back Pain: 6 Reasons Why Your Back Pain Is Getting Worse

Back pain is one of the most common types of chronic pain, and this generalized condition can be the result of a far-reaching range of causes. From an old injury or ineffective surgery to years of putting pressure on your back through work or strenuous activity, back pain comes in all forms and can stem from a myriad of root issues.

But just like virtually all kinds of chronic pain, there may be other factors at play that are causing your back pain to get worse and not better.

So if you’ve noticed your back pain is more frequent or more intense, be on the lookout for these common and everyday reasons why your back pain is not being resolved.

1. You haven’t seen an interventional pain management specialist.

A general physician can prescribe painkillers and make educated guesses as to why you are in pain. However, it takes a highly skilled interventional pain management to get to the source of the problem and to identify a long-term treatment plan that works.

2. Your shoes are causing problems.

Fashion choices can often lead to pain, starting with your feet. High heels are an especially common culprit when it comes to back pain, as it forces you to lean forward when you walk, puts extra pressure on the feet, and causes you to not fully extend your calf muscles, which leads to more strain on the lower back.

3. Your diet needs adjusting.

A recent study found that 31% of women and 25% of men who suffered regular back pain also had gastrointestinal issues, such as food intolerance or stomach pains. This is because back pain and inflammation due to nutritional choices can be linked, and one problem can exacerbate the other.

4. You need a lighter load.

A heavy purse, book bag, briefcase, laptop bag, or other accessories can cause pressure on one or both sides of your back, as well as extra strain. This is especially true if you tend to carry a heavy purse or bag on one shoulder, without the excess weight evenly distributed.

5. You’re not moving around.

Inactivity is one of the most detrimental things that you can do to your body as your muscles become adjusted to a single position and eventually tighten up.

This leads to stiffness, added strain, and an increase in pain and discomfort – especially if you spend hours every day sitting down. So be sure and get up and move at least once an hour, and to stretch regularly, to keep active throughout the day.

6. Your hips aren’t quite even.

Did you know that many people have uneven hips, which means that on the side of the pelvis is slightly higher than the other? This minor imbalance can lead to regular and recurrent back pain, especially when it comes to working out.

If you notice pain during exercise, or that one side of your body seems to be more inflexible than the other, it’s time to talk to your Interventional Pain Management Specialist.

Back pain doesn’t have to be a permanent part of life, and there are things you can do to start feeling better! Schedule your consultation with your Interventional Pain Management specialist today, and get your back on track to being pain-free for good.
